53X eBook Coming Soon

I am happy to announce that my new eBook will be available on Feb 14. It has been a long process in the making and I really have to thank all the people that read and proofread. Biggest thanks to Matt Holland helped tremendously with the editing.

I am sure some may wonder why I am self-publishing this. It is important to me that the content by my voice. I did not want to risk having it watered down.

The ebook will cost $7. Obviously I am not trying to get rich off this. My hope is that I can sell enough copies to pay for the cost of running practicing theology. I will give it away free for those who cannot afford it as long as they agree to certain conditions.

Finally, there will be an online version of it available so that you can have the option of reading it online. The advantage of the ebook is that you can print it out and read it like a book. This is not possible with the online version. Also, the online version is missing all the cool artwork in the book.

Joshua Harris whose first book was the very controversial I Kissed Dating Goodbye has done a short video interview about the importance of understanding how our sexuality is connected to God. The video is posted over at YouTube by Desiring God.

Love Idol

Being in a relationship defines our identity. Some women believe that they are not a woman until they marry and have kids. Likewise, many guys do not believe they are a man until they marry and have kids.All of this contributes to the idolatry of love/sex/romance/marriage and family being greater than what many realize.

A new chapter is available. Read it.

Romance has become the single mission in life for many young people (and a lot of older singles too). I take a look at the idolatry of romance/love/sex in this next chapter in 53X. Happy reading.

53X Online Book (shhh…it’s about sex)

I couple of years ago I taught a series on sex to a college group I was leading at the time. I have since taken that material, reworked it added more research and compiled it into booklet form. I was using it in my discipleship program when I was encouraged to make more broadly available. Today I am making that happen. It is called 53X and you can go here to start reading it.

I wrote this because I believe that we need to take a second look at our theology of sex in the Church. Personally I feel we have let the culture define our thinking in this area more than scripture. I hope that you will find this material to be intellectually stimulating regardless of whether or not you agree with my conclusions. My goal is to get us thinking and talking.

Over the course of the next few weeks I will add more chapters. But today, the introduction and first chapter are available. Signup with your email address (at the very top of this screen) to be notified when new chapters are added as well as other updates to this site.

53X is Leet (or 1337) speak for the word sex. Never heard of Leet speak before? Well, have you ever used the phrase LOL or BRB in an IM or text message? That’s leet. Teenagers use leet for certain words when they do not want their parents to know what they are talking about. Check out this wiki page about it. The idea behind this section of the website is to post thought provoking articles and content about God and Sex.
